HRHR: Prepare for Trouble.

TO PROTECT THE WORLD FROM DEVASTATION;
TO UNITE ALL PEOPLES WITHIN OUR NATION

THE MISSIVE.

Precise as always, Grothia delivers a text address to all COST recruits, detailing a series of missions. With the upcoming holiday, she and Young know as well as the Regency that it's a perfect time for sabotage. After so much gross indulgence, the Araneans calm. It's a reprieve; one could almost think to call the Araneans docile, if docile meant you run the risk of being sleepily devoured by a satisfied spider. It's the freest recruits will be from their scrutiny, though there is still no shortage of prying eyes.

But there's no rest for the wicked.

COST is in a race with the Regency, to see who can outwit who first. Both sides are here to protect their interests and ensure the victory of who they would see sit the throne.

HOW IT WORKS.

Once again, this is going to be a little different from our previous HRHRs.

As seen in previous HRHRs, you guys get to choose from the objectives listed below; how your characters complete them is totally up to you. However, rather than asking you to turn in full plans, we're going to request skill levels for your characters as they pertain to that specific mission. You have until June 14th to sign up; we'll pair you up and tell you the difficulty of your HRHR the following day. If it's amenable to you, we'll roll for success. Please note that more than one pair of characters can tackle a HRHR; you'll just work on different objectives.

Skill levels are out of 30, with 1 as the worst possible score (bordering on nonfunctional), 15 as average for a non-powered human with training, and 30 as superhuman godlike abilities. For reference, a 20 would be peak performance from a non-powered human in an area where they're extremely knowledgeable and experienced, while powered humans will likely peak around 25, unless their powers or skills are seriously broken.

Threads are due August 5th EDIT: July 5th I SWEAR I KNOW JULY COMES AFTER JUNE. Failure to turn in a thread will result in an automatic failure of that mission, regardless of what the mods rolled for you. They don't need to be complete by any means, but they should show the characters working on their HRHR in some capacity.

Please pick at least two HRHR options and note if you prefer one over the other. Ideally, we'll have at least two characters signed up for each mission, but it's not the end of the world if we have fewer; HRHRs are optional and no one will get in trouble for not participating. That said, failing a mission can result in the death or injury of one or both parties.

Characters can still interact with the rest of the cell while working on HRHRs. Also, the general parameters of these missions and who is doing what is IC knowledge (barring the last HRHR; you'll see why), so y'all have a general idea of each other's activities.

And please feel free to use any previously obtained plot coupons or elements in your plans.

THE MISSIONS.

HRHRs take place during the current log. You do not need to complete or even work on every mission objective; you only need to focus on one. The others are there in case we have more than 14 characters interested in the HRHRs, to give you guys a complete picture of what kind of missions you might be assigned. This way no one experiences any unfortunate surprises.

All HRHRs run concurrently, unless noted otherwise. Characters are given full agency over the completion of their missions, whether this means fighting tooth and nail, sneaking around, or doing whatever else. Hell, you could blow something up if that's your jam.

Do what you gotta do.

» THE ASSASSINATION.

Oh hell, they're trying to kill the queen.

High Queen Thsh is not one to be coddled and she makes that clear by killing the first of her would-be assassins on her own terms. She has decimated rebellions much larger than this and believes this one will be no different, stirred by her daughter or not. But COST would rather assassins not even get close to her, particularly with the Regency involved.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Intercept any assassins, preferably well before they can engage the queen.
  • Provide proof of the Regency's assassination attempts, fabricated or not.
  • Dispose of high ranking Regency officials and their allies. If an opportunity presents itself, assassinate Princess Chch.

» THE LABS.

While the labs are largely archaic, certain sections remain functional and in production, namely in the manufacture and distribution of uthcki and hhcho. They also hold the genetic material of more than a few Araneans. House Jankeh presides over the production of uthcki and hhcho (among other experiments), while House Shaiy has taken over House Chchai's management of the Aranean genetic database.

The first objective runs prior to the mines' objectives.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Gain access to the labs and steal samples from the Aranean database, at least one male and one female. Additional samples would not go amiss.
  • Investigate any advanced biotechnology in manufacture by House Jankeh. The decision to sabotage or leave it is up to you.
  • Create a duplicate of database records, particularly anything that seems suspicious.

» THE MEDIA.

As chaos unfolds, the media plays an important role in its control; propaganda goes a long way, no matter the location. WebFeed in particular is abuzz. Queen Thsh's stranglehold on the throne has been aided in no small part by its influence and the Regency attempts to grapple with that now. COST is here to provide countermeasures and prevent the Regency from swaying influence towards House Oujh, in an attempt to instate them as a new Great House.

The broadcasting stations are highly advanced, so there will be a steep learning curve, but a character with some technological experience will fare better than someone with none at all.

There's also the matter of House Shaiy. While they've failed to monopolize the media, they hold sway over a not-insignificant part; Queen Thsh has simply always superseded their influence. But now she's distracted.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Obtain access to a broadcasting station, through whatever means necessary, and doctor the broadcasts so they're in COST's favor.
  • Tarnish House Oujh's reputation and make them look weak, whether by destroying pro-Regency broadcasting stations, dragging them in interviews, or anything else.
  • Threaten House Shaiy into line, whether physically or through other means. Remember, rumors don't have to be true; you just have to convince people to believe them.

» THE MINES.

Unrefined Ymir is still incredibly dangerous for non-Araneans, but the advent of the suits means COST recruits have some means of protection if they venture into the mines. However, the suits aren't foolproof, so there's a chance that recruits who participate in this HRHR may end up doing so...as Araneans. If Young can don a human guise, there's nothing to stop anyone else from downloading Aranean bios, provided they have the right data.

Characters donning Aranean disguises must fall on the artificial or natural segments of the hierarchy, since an Aranean giving off magical traits is a huge red flag, but magical recruits can still sign up. They just have to remain in human form.

The bulk of Aranean labor in the mines is overseen by two houses: House Oujh and House Khnk. House Oujh is irrefutably in favor of the Regency.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Steal as much Ymir as possible, in the event all else goes pear-shaped.
  • Create unrest and a lack of faith in House Oujh, whether by sabotaging the mines or through other means, and try to tip control into House Khnk's hands.
  • There is supposedly a vault buried deep within the mines, where the most potent of Ymir is kept. Locate and rob it.

» THE REGENCY.

While inclined towards order, the Regency is fully prepared to take advantage of the turmoil. It isn't exactly to plan, but when do plans ever unfold without a hitch? They still aim to counter COST's agenda with their own; ultimately, it comes down to who gets where first.

The Regency is likely to interfere—or attempt to interfere—with all of the HRHRs. All recruits, participants of the HRHRs or otherwise, are expected to be ready to engage them, but Grothia wants a dedicated team on duty.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Run interference for all the other groups, through whatever means necessary; sabotage, hit and runs, whatever possible. Just keep the heat off the other recruits.
  • Wipe out the Regency's base of operations. The most obvious is their quarters, but they may have other targets spread throughout Jhashch (cough, House Shaiy, cough).
  • Locate and extract a COST ally from among the Regency's ranks. She bears the staff sigil of Ptah and uses the code name "Serket".

» THE VIRTUAL.

If you thought you were done with video games, think again. Ythaway: Become Arachnid (or, as it's more commonly known, Y:BA) is a hyper-realistic virtual reality simulator, pride and joy of Aranean gaming. Users enter stasis after choosing a username and logging into a server. They're given the option to select a class, which affects their stats...but not their knowledge, so choose appropriately. COST recruits can interface with the game through their visors.

Players are loaded into a maze, which is open-world style.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Make contact with an Aranean under the username "xXRipperXx" and forge an alliance.
  • Make contact with an Aranean under the username "SP1NNER" and forge an alliance.
  • Recover important data. You're gonna have to dungeon crawl for it, bros.

» THE GLITCH.

This HRHR doesn't have objectives and is entirely in your hands, because it isn't an assigned HRHR. You see, it's an accident; the Regency intends to make good on its promise to House Khah, giving them a chance to fight the Twin Princess Generals without interference, but their attempt to remove variables from the equation only added more.

If you're unlucky enough to experience the glitch, you'll find yourself teleported into a forest of wild greens and blues when the Twin Generals disappear from Jhashch. In the distance, rough red spires rise into the sky; it's the sight of them that might clue you in on your location. Because Cre is beautiful in all the ways Jhashch is not, even impaled by spikes that were once Ymir's ribs. They've been mined to the marrow and the average human can barely even feel the tingle of magic, but prolonged exposure is still less than advised.

More importantly, you're caught in a battle between the Generals and House Khah.

ETCETERA.

For those of you who want to request more information as it relates to your HRHR, we have a top level here for your perusal. Just fill out the form and you're good to go. This header also doubles as the place to request additional RNGs, whether because you're a masochist who wants to see your character die because they bungled a coin toss or you want to RNG a thread with someone besides your assigned HRHR partner.

Feel free to use this post to plot with each other. Or wherever else floats your boat!

verumdicit: dnt, <user name=apostrophe> (For each layer reveals the key)

[personal profile] verumdicit 2018-06-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Meliorn ([personal profile] verumdicit)
Mission: Assasination
Skill: Fighting prowess/ability is about 23 or so given his experience/powers
Approach: Play bodyguard, essentially -- keep an eye out for suspicious regency folk, take them down swiftly and without remorse. Can definitely lure some assassins by pretending he's a real magical snack and completely harmless before wiping 'em out.

Mission: Regency (preferred!)
Skill: Meliorn excels at this since he's been an envoy for so long and is a Seelie with charisma up the ass. 25 seems reasonable to me, but I'm willing to change it up!
Approach: Play the double agent! Meliorn's been keeping his head down vs regency since he arrived wanting to learn more, and it's time to propose he work with said regency. Emphasize that his kind often work for the winning side, and since he's had doubts about COST it wouldn't be lying if he phrased how he was finding them difficult in the past. Get as much information on where they are and when to strike as possible after that, and either pass the information on to a willing party or do it himself.
horsepowered: (Default)

[personal profile] horsepowered 2018-06-11 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Chiron ([personal profile] horsepowered)
Mission: Run interference for all the other groups, through whatever means necessary; sabotage, hit and runs, whatever possible. Just keep the heat off the other recruits or Locate and extract a COST ally from among the Regency's ranks (super happy to partner up with folks if there's greater interest.) Some preference for option two, but also extremely happy to partner up for it.
Skill:
For option 1: 25/30; Chiron's perfectly happy to sit and pick people off through conventional means with bow+arrow, or else call in the big guns with his Noble Phantasm pending mod approval on that + effectiveness for any magic barriers etc. Feel free to +/- skill points if magical barriers factor in!

For option 2: 22/30; Depending on who else might be on the mission and what other chaos is going on to make extraction easier, as well as any barriers.
Approach:

For option 1: Chiron would request information in real time, and take advantage of his servant bullshit abilities to move to where he was required as quickly as possible. This brings some issue as his magical core can be tracked if one is a spider, but beyond that, he'd be quick to set up and start picking individuals off with bow and arrow as a matter of course. Closer combat, if required, would be done with whatever was lying about or with bare hands if required. If an entire compound needed to go, he would use this opportunity to actually bring down his Noble Phantasm, because bullshit space arrow needs to be used at some point.

For option 2: Chiron would rely on the chaos of everyone else in order to provide cover. If need be, he'd create the chaos himself, although he would have concerns about pulling it off successfully and might want to have a partner here (or someone who's taken the chaos option.) Once done, he'd locate the agent as required and rely on his spirit form in order to get them away and towards COST without making himself obvious or threatening her own status. Running for cover is running for cover, after all.

[personal profile] murdocksboy 2018-06-12 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Matt Murdock ([personal profile] murdocksboy)
Mission: The Regency (preferred)
Skill: I'm going to say 19 for this one. Sneaking and close combat are Matt's jam, and he lives for infiltrating and taking down bad guy bases. But his enhanced senses really give him a huge advantage for this particular mission.
Approach: Run interference for other COST members by taking out immediate threats, infiltrate Regency housing and put the beat-down on its members. He can also use that hearing of his to help locate Serket, if paired with someone who can be the necessary set of eyes. He'd also be incredibly useful as a spy, since he can easily listen in on Regency conversations and report intel to other groups.

Mission: The Media
Skill: 18? Matt is a brilliant lawyer and excellent at oratory and argument. He'd be very very good at manipulating information to make his side look good and convince people of the failings of the other side.
Approach: He'll need assistance in getting access to a broadcast station or interviews, but he'll use every bit of charm and the skills honed in arguing court cases to make certain houses look dangerous and/or incompetent. He can also apply those skills more subtly one-on-one in conversation with members of the court to plant suggestions in favor of COST and against Oujh and Shaiy.

Character: James Buchanan Barnes ([personal profile] lefthandfree)

I know you guys said focus on one objective, but Bucky is a bit well rounded for these two. I’m listing what’s applicable, so you have more to work with if there are more than the expected signups.

Mission: The Assassination
Skill: 25. considered a ghost in his universe for assassinating and is well versed in methods and tactics. both make him very good at developing countermeasures.
Approach:
If in a team-up, guard + counter-sniper combo, Bucky as the latter. He knows the best sorts of places to approach from and can pin enemies easily in a few shots, even other snipers. He'd pre-plan a triad of easily accessible vantage points and game angles to take out quickly from a distance (assuming guard partner can handle close-quarters conflicts that breach shooting perimeter).

If running solo, run and gun tactic. Not always running of course, but kiting and camping as necessary. He’s well versed in arms and is an effective tank fighter when given the right artillery and weaponry. He can gain the upper hand against multiple opponents with relative ease.

Also, if guns aren’t a free option here, he’ll use throwing knives and whatever else is around. He’s good at what he does for a reason, okay.

And. Professional Assassin. If Princess Chch can be taken out, she will be. He’ll even pin it on someone else if it’s convenient.

Mission: The Labs (preferred)
Skill: 24. while not honed for espionage specifically, he has to use a lot of relative skills for assassination; getting in and out without being seen or noticed is like breathing for him. also he's in Jankeh's gun club. that. maybe helps with getting accessibility intel. probably.
Approach: Remember that arm thing Bucky got ages ago when they stole shit from the Regency? Yeah, that’ll be a real help here. He’ll do his own share of scouting the old fashioned way, of course, but nabbing samples, material, and data are going to be easy peasy with the arm database thing. If anyone intrudes, he can make quick work of them or collaborate depending on circumstances given his high diplomacy levels in spiderland right now and favor with Jankeh. Oh, and getting access would be the classic bribery or force method. Metal arms are HANDy like that, ha. He’s not...a scientist, so he can’t necessarily decipher everything about biotech, but he’s also got a piece of biotech attached to him so. I guess that objective is relative too.

heilt: (ᴢᴡᴇɪᴇsᴀ̈ᴄʜᴢɪɢ)

[personal profile] heilt 2018-06-12 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Character: angela ziegler ([personal profile] heilt)
Mission: the labs (preferred!!!)
Skill: doctor with experience with biotech. 20??? (im not sure, pls help)
Approach: scientific curiosity. if asked by araneans angela might talk vaguely about her research and wish to see theirs for collaboration/etc/stuff. she'd hopefully be able to recognise in the database what they're looking for

Mission: regency
Skill: not v high? she's not used to this side of things (pls help)
Approach: she would likely agree/help with what her partner in crime suggested for this, providing it didnt involve killing anyone. she's not a spy or has had to do this before so it could end in failure unless her task gave her simple details

It's CB, back at it again with more annoying questions.

Like the arenas, John would want to use what resources he has to ensure victory. I know that spiders can't be influenced by magic directly, but objects can be influenced to use against the spiders instead. In the media HRHR option, would it be possible for John to use his compulsion ability to enchant a microphone or other means of broadcast to influence the believability of the messages?

If Grothia is kidnapped or otherwise vanished would a character perhaps be able to investigate this and/or attempt a rescue operation

Asking for a friend
ryuji: (374)

[personal profile] ryuji 2018-06-12 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: ryuji ([personal profile] ryuji)
Mission: the virtual
Skill: 22? he's super great at video gaming and his entire canon is pretty much dungeon crawling to find out information and commit acts of subterfuge. as a class, he's probably going to go down the route of something tanky.
Approach: Send a beacon out to the gamers via an elaborate easter egg setup. Find a way to abuse the rules of the game, since that's what he's particularly great at. Break a part of the maze and secure a meeting out of bounds of the environment so it can be secure.

Mission: and if all else fails throw his ass into the glitch
Skill: 18, slightly above average because of his magic, but... probably going to die
Approach: Trying to avoid the combat, trying not to die. His interest will probably be in the glowing red shit happening off in the distance. Maybe he can form a pact with the magics inside it? Give his baby Sun Wukong/Seiten Taisei some extra magic powers to command a demon monkey army like he's supposed to in his legend (kidding- but). A power up would be kind of nice considering he hasn't been able to deal with his persona and his bond with Mordred simultaneously. And then, of course, if that fails, feel the sweet, sweet release of death.

Oh no
thunders: (Default)

[personal profile] thunders 2018-06-12 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Thor ([personal profile] worthyofthunder)

Mission: Mines
Skill: 25 maybe? idk. He's good at the sabotage parts and he's pretty hardy, but since he can't sneak around in spider skin and he's magically tasty he's not going to be at all subtle.
Approach: Using his obvious-ness to his advantage to draw attention away from whoever else is working on the mission. Also aiding and abetting VAULT ROBBERY and then maybe sabotaging/crippling the mine.

Mission: Glitch
Skill: 30
Approach: If it's straight up hunt and fight, he'll be going after members of house Khah and trying to aid the twin generals. Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frighting.

I don't have a strong pref so whatever works.
doublejumps: (pic#12151629)

[personal profile] doublejumps 2018-06-12 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: Genji Shimada ([personal profile] doublejumps)
Mission: The Regency
Skill: Genji's got experience in black ops, wetwork, and stealth, and is also a well-trained fighter with cybernetic enhancements, so I'm going to put him at 23.
Approach: Genji would be able to perform sabotages and hit-and-runs, and essentially engage with Regency agents to distract them from the other missions going on, most primarily by attacking them unexpectedly. He's also capable of infiltrating Regency quarters and dispatching whoever he finds there, and would be keeping an eye out for their COST agent.

Mission: The Glitch
Skill: Since fighting is likely going to be involved for this, I'll put him as 23 again. Genji does have some experience navigating the wilderness as well.
Approach: Genji would explore the area as much as he could, and as for the fight going on, he would opt to watch from afar (hopefully without being detected) to see how things played out. It's possible he would interfere, but that wouldn't be his first choice. He knows that choosing to fight on either side could have political implications, though if he had to choose, he would support the Generals.

facepalms oh my god guys, my apologies. here's option 2 for real, because i can read.

Mission: The Assassination; especiall running interference.
Skill: 22/30, as spiders mean anything Chrion will attempt that relates to magic or himself will be knocked down several pegs.

Approach:
This is a complete and utter heat of the moment kind of mission, which requires snap judgement calls. To that end, Chiron would rely on using his natural archery abilities to snipe whenever possible, although the second that becomes impossible to do, he's happy to get on the ground and grab a sword to get into the fray properly. He'd also be a potential good bait/tasty spider snack option if this would be required of him, going so far as to enter horsemode to accomplish it if need be. Likewise, since spirit mode = magic that can be tracked, he could and would happily use that if the situation seemed to call for it.

millimeter: ta. profile. mad. up. (fuck that guy)

[personal profile] millimeter 2018-06-13 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Character: prompto argentum ([personal profile] millimeter)
Mission: virtual (preferred) or labs, but lbr i'm here to make sure we don't end up with an odd number of people so anywhere is good
Skill: 18 | 18 | i can rescore for other options
Approach: just crams both under the same header
  • virtual: gunner or ranged class and then a lot of flying by the seat of his pants. he has a good grasp of game mechanics and stats, which he's willing to use his advantage. he's way less capable at sweet talking spiders, so that nerfs his score some, but hopefully whoever he's partnered with can take the reins there. or who knows; maybe you can win a spider over with enthusiasm.

  • labs: can be way sneakier than you'd expect and is competent with firearms (he has a rifle from the auctions), so he can do the stealthy thing or make a lot of noise. prone to improvising, but he's big on cooperation so if his partner has plans, he'll roll with them. may choose to something dumb and totally trash a database or something, though; any biotech is probably not safe from destruction.

For the media HRHR, Dany's not too great with tech, so she would fail with broadcasting. Just wondering if I could get a little clarification on the other objectives and their requirements for tech know-how please!
