RETAIL THERAPY.

BONUS REWARDS;
get your sweet loot here

Yep! It's finally time to cash in your XP. Here you can buy things for your characters with the bonus points you've accumulated in the months since they've arrived. There are two kinds of items they can purchase: set items (items listed below with set prices) and proposed items. Proposed items are things or abilities or whatever you can think of, which you'll tell us the details of, and we'll give you a price quote. If you're okay with the price, let us know, and you're good to go.

The purchases you'll be making are OOC; your character will not be aware of these purchases. The items will arrive in your character's room on Base, so they'll get it on the 9th. You have plenty of time to come up with a shopping list.

Mote on the 'Basic Items' category: Since listing minutely every single item it's possible to buy would be a huge pain in the ass, we're going to describe what some of the items are without getting into specifics, so you can be creative, pick items from home, or items your characters have never seen before, whatever. In your shopping lists, please feel free to go into detail. If we disagree about how you've priced the items, we'll tell you, but honestly I doubt we'll care. This is mostly for fun, anyway.

Because it's time sensitive, this post, and the opportunity to buy shit with your XP, closes on December 8th, but don't worry, the opportunity to cash in XP will come around again every few months, usually between missions.

BASIC ITEMS
  • 1 XP - one outfit of basic clothing of no special protective capabilities, in any style
  • 1 XP - three average sized meals of average sustenance levels with no special qualities, in any style
  • 1 XP - one weapon of no special magical or technological ability that does not need to be reloaded, in any style
  • 2 XP - one weapon of no special magical or technological ability that does need to be reloaded, in any style
  • 1 XP - one packet of ammunition for above weapon
  • extra amenities to the characters specifications
  • 1 XP - one miscellaneous item, which can have some magical or technological attributes, but cannot be used for combat
  • 4 XP - one weapon of great technological or magical power that your character used before they joined COST

SPECIAL ITEMS
  • 3 XP - Bird repellent: A loud air horn that makes all birds in the vicinity leave you alone for a total of 5 minutes.
  • 3 XP - Tarnhauser's Book Of Petty Magyks: A cursed book, about 50 pages, detailing ten spells that can be deployed at any time, but only once. What spells the book contains changes every time it's printed (that's why it's cursed), so it's kind of a gamble if you'll get anything good. The mods will let you know upon purchase.
  • 3 XP - OmniKey: A key that will open any door, but only once.
  • 3 XP - Base Interactive Map: A paper map that will lead you through the base, showing you not only what's in it, but where everyone is (if they have their location set to public), as well as the location of all the DACTYL droids, what showers are currently being used, and the amount of birds in a given area.
  • 3 XP - HelperTron 782-54: An experimental prototype meant to replace DACTYL droids, the robot is the size of a football and half as intelligent. It can barely remember it's name and doesn't like the color yellow. It's best use is as an alarm clock, because it's really, really good at waking people up in the middle of the night. Tech-savvy characters are welcome to try to improve it.
  • 4 XP - Norn Cards: An old deck of cards with faded, esoteric images on them. Some say reading them will tell the future, and certainly more cards seem to pop up at certain times than others, despite the fact that there are only one of each card in this deck of 25. If you choose to purchase this, we'll give you a rundown on the cards and how they work, and, yes, they do tell the future... in really vague ways.

BCE UPGRADES
  • 1 XP - ZapChat: A fun app that lets you take pictures or short videos of yourself, adding stickers, filters, and other weird bullshit onto them. Anyone can recieve one, but only those with the app on their BCE can send them. Due to limited server space within COST, all media sent through this app will automatically delete itself after ten seconds of being opened.
  • 1 XP - TrioLinguo: A language-learning application that teaches you basic vocabulary and sentence structure before testing you at least once daily, with a point system to keep you engaged. Current language packs included are: Modern English, Modern Japanese, Ancient Japanese, French, Jhachsh'ii, Aesiri, Ancient Greek, High Valyrian, Lemurian, Klingon, and Australian.
  • 1 XP - Majel: A helpful AI that will do things for you. Majel, set an alarm for 4AM. Majel, delete ZapChat off my BCE. Majel, send a message to Achilles with the words 'no more dickpics'. Majel, make an appointment to catch the king's beheading. And Majel will, with a minimal amount of backtalk.
  • 1 XP - Cards Against Immortality: You can probably guess.

PROPOSED PURCHASES
  • The only rules for these are: it can't be sentient, it can't be something that would change the entire structure of the game, it can't be something giving time travel or dimensional travel abilities, and it can't be bigger than a house. Otherwise, go to town.
  • (Note: We reserve the right to deny a proposal if even if it doesn't meet the above criteria, simply because we can't think of every way something could go horribly wrong ahead of time.)

PRICE INQUIRY

[personal profile] northerndragon 2017-12-02 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
WHAT DOES IT DO? It is a fully-grown, six-year-old male albino direwolf named Ghost.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Sort of like a wolf the size of a pony. There are some negligible biological differences between direwolves and normal wolves -- direwolves aren't just bigger, though they're clearly related. But "huge white wolf" is close enough to be getting on with.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? It can store itself! When not penned up in canon, and not hanging around Jon, Ghost tends to entertain himself for long periods of time. He's not really a pet, he's more of a wild animal who has a close bond with a single human. I mean, he's been running around off-camera since the beginning of S6 because apparently he's "expensive to animate" or something. /eyeroll
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER?
- If Ghost shows up to be helpful, he's very protective of Jon (the screenshot above is him guarding Jon's body when Jon was dead for a whole day), and he can act as a weapon in those battles in which he shows up if he ever does, though it would not always be necessarily clear from the outside that he's motivated to fight for Jon. In this setting, Ghost's protectiveness might partly extend to castmates. Ghost is pretty much cool with anyone his favorite human is cool with, and a little more openly aggressive toward people who are threats to Jon, but he can be instructed to back down and will listen. All the Stark direwolves are like this with their people.
- Jon does not know how to warg intentionally, so he can't do the stuff that Bran can do where he slips into Summer to get a look around. But he does have a subtle mental connection with Ghost, will have dreams from his POV (mostly just dreams of doing wolf things -- it's that he literally occasionally inhabits Ghost's body while he's asleep but has no control over it and is just sort of along for the ride while Ghost hunts or whatever), and in the books, will sometimes feel very hungry for bloody meat when Ghost is nearby. Ghost is also aware on some level that only one of his littermates, a sister, is still alive, and in this case, would feel like she was far away. (But that littermate bond seems to be the only sentience the direwolves have, and it's only something the Stark kids become aware of during warging or wolf dreams.)
- About the only hyper-advantageous way this stuff could all ever be used is if Ghost accidentally saw something revealing (about enemy movements or etc) while Jon was dreaming from his POV, which would be a plot device that would require mod involvement at the time anyway. It also doesn't ever have to be used that way. Otherwise, the wolf dreams are not really a good thing or a bad thing, just a thing thing.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? I'm not sure those accidental warging things and wolf dreams are always an advantage, when you can't control them. Plus: huge wolf to take care of and feed, though Ghost generally runs off to entertain himself in the wild when told to, and Ghost's protectiveness could conceivably sometimes be a problem with other members of COST. Also, Jon has a sword that has a pommel in the shape of his dog, more or less, something that was intentional on the part of the people who helped when the pommel was remade for him. He's never going to live this down on base. He's like a guy who has a picture of his golden retriever on his lock screen.

price question!!

[personal profile] pointedlook 2017-12-06 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure if this falls under the "misc item that can't be used for combat" or is something more specified

WHAT DOES IT DO? It is the PASIV device!
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? On the outside it's just a silver brief case. Once unlocked, the insides are like as pictured above.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? With Arthur, normally. When on base, he'll have it tucked under his bed.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? If it's possible to use for missions, then it can help them out! If not, he'll just have it for demonstration or if fellow COST members want to dream themselves into the bahamas idk
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? Kind of a pain in the ass to keep up with, there's only so much Somnacin that comes with the case, also he can potentially get stuck in a dream (oops).

DON'T MIND ME I'm just gonna...put a price on 76's inventory so I can decide what 2 buy

PROPOSED ITEM: The stuff he is wearing, but I’m price checking it because it's a lot of stuff and involves body armor (and if different parts of the getup should be priced or earned back separately, I’m cool with that also).
WHAT DOES IT DO? It’s clothes (jacket, boots, gloves, fatigues, equipment harnesses, compression shirt), but the jacket is lightly armored and he wears a chest piece underneath. The nature of it is never specified but shit like this happens to him, and he doesn’t immediately die, so even accounting for his enhanced durability, probably near-future kevlar is involved?
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? All this, minus the weapons (obv) and visor.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? He’s gonna WEAR IT and then leave it home on missions, in his quarters.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? Please look at how incredibly snazzy this jacket is, also he just feels better knowing people can't shoot him as effectively.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? I'm generally assuming he can’t take it on missions unless we end up going to a place where it’s fashion-appropriate, so it’s mostly just for him to wear around the base.

PROPOSED ITEM: Tactical visor
WHAT DOES IT DO? The tactical visor is a piece of stolen government equipment that 76 uses as an environment scanner and (legal) aimbot. After a charge period, he can use it to lock onto targets for 6 seconds and go totally wild.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? It’s this thing on his face.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? Mostly he’s gonna wear it, at least on base. Otherwise, it’s small enough to pop in a bag or shove under his bed.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? He worked real hard to steal it from the government and he’ll be glad to have it back. An environment scanner is pretty handy when you’re doing recon, and who doesn’t want six seconds of aim assist sometimes???
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? Future Tech, so obviously he can’t use it in public if he's allowed to bring it on missions and will have to be careful about when and where he does use it. The environment scanner seems to be mostly for warm bodies, making it easy to cheat if you know what you’re doing or you have the equipment (or if you’re some kind of dead, like Reaper). The aim assist only works in conjunction with his heavy pulse rifle. It’s not designed to sync up with any other weaponry.

PROPOSED ITEM: Biotic fields
WHAT DOES IT DO? It's a short-term healing device that speeds up wound recovery through the magic of nanomachines.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Like this--a canister a bit larger than a soda can.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? On his person, in a bag, shoved under his bed in his room somewhere.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? On-the-go healing for him and everyone within his immediate radius! Also, extremely portable.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? They’re one time use only—after they emit for a few seconds, that’s it, so if he uses one on a mission, it’s one and done plus he has to carry the empty canister or figure out how to dispose of it in a way that won’t Ruin History. They’re also Future Tech, so he can’t exactly whip them out in front of people on a mission: he’d have to be very certain that the party in need of healing is unconscious or otherwise unable to notice that they’re being hit with Future Tech, and then he might have to explain why wounds are gone, so in most cases it will be unwise for him to use them at all. Again, risk of discovery.

WHAT DOES IT DO? Is Achilles' mother, tells him that he's not a fuckboy and that he's perfect. When activated she will say "mama will make it better, achilles"
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? She's sexy.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? In the ocean.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? Achilles is a mama's boy.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? Uh... she can discipline him when he's being bad.

PROPOSED ITEM
MetaNav App (On BCE or otherwise just his phone from his home universe)

WHAT DOES IT DO? It allows entry into the collective unconscious layer below reality, existing only in cognition and storing the subliminal desires of humanity. The user enters a name to search for a hit, and then the destination in which they'd like to travel to.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? It's watching you
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? Pocket sized global catastrophe
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? We will steal Achilles' lust for dickpics
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? See above

PROPSED ITEM: Yakul, the red elk
WHAT DOES IT DO? Walks, runs, sleeps, eats, poops, provides eternal companionship and occasional judgmental stares.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Man's best friend.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? That's kind of one of the issues with him, since he's pretty big! Yakul isn't really one to wander, so he doesn't necessarily need to be stabled, but he will need to be taken care of and kept in places comfortable for a large elk.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? He's Ashitaka's best friend, and he misses him... But real talk, in addition to his companionship, Yakul is a very smart creature and can comprehend and follow basic commands given to him, such as staying in one place, leaving for a while and coming back to a given location, and other similar directives. He's a capable steed, very well-trained, difficult to spook, and extremely loyal. (San also talks to him at one point, giving her information about them and their quest, so idk if that makes him too smart? He can't speak to anyone who doesn't have the... inexplicable ability to speak to animals.)
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? Yakul is big, and a red elk stands out a lot more than an animal like a horse might. So while he can provide a lot of benefit as a steed (and a friend), he is an obvious detriment if they ever need to be incognito for any reason (especially in locations and time periods where a red elk would stand out even more than normal). He also requires a decent amount of space to sleep and eats quite a lot due to his size.

(If it's okay I might propose some other purchases later, once the mods decide how much the proposed purchase above would cost?)

time to dump a bunch of my random ideas

[personal profile] trample 2017-12-02 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
COUNTER-FITTER
WHAT DOES IT DO? It prints/mints money from whatever historical time period and region a mission is set in. Alternatively, it just provides a sum of items with intrinsic value (think gold nuggets/bars or gems).
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Imagine the aesthetic of a modern safe, but about the size of those big printers your high school always abused. There's a simple computer menu to control it that will automatically have mission parameters installed by virtue of being connected to COST's database. Around waist level there's a chute by which the machine shits gold releases its contents into a cubby.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? It fits and sits on the counter of Eren's room.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? Gives him a small fortune before going into the past. Turns him into Edmond Dantes lite.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? He's too much of a dumbass to effectively use it the first few goes. Not only that, he'll probably draw a lot of attention just by being a rich guy out of nowhere if the situation calls for it.
I was thinking he'd have to deal with keeping from making too much of an impact with it while at the same time using every last speck of cash effectively.

CRANKY-HANKY
WHAT DOES IT DO? It's a handkerchief just like any other, except in that it's got a layer of chloroform on it. Forever. Got a problem? Want to snub them? Just use this! Unlike in the movies, it'll take a minute or two of constant effort to actually make your buddy pass out, but it's not like they were going to comply in the first place. Doubles as a medical tool.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Achilles' cum rag A plain handkerchief.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? Probably Eren's pocket, honestly.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? Eren's sick of not having any anesthetics for surgery whenever he goes back to the past Samurai Jack and would be happy to have something to amend that with. It would also serve to help with being all sneaky beaky like, but that's something he's not concerned with particularly.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? It looks like he's carrying around a wank rag. It's embarrassing.
On a more serious note, having to explain "how the hell are you knocking these patients out safely" would make public surgery a lot harder, so...he'll probably have to lay low with it for the most part unless it's a one off thing. This is assuming the time period is, in fact, before the advent of more modern anesthetics.

MY LEG
WHAT DOES IT DO? It's a nondescript wooden stick tied around Eren's stump of a leg. It is, quite possibly, the most uncomfortable peg leg imaginable, as it's only held on with duct tape and honestly is more thin than it has any right to be, but it does not snap in half thanks to its carbon fiber structure and repairs any blemishes with Future Tech™. Its use will become legendary throughout history.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Like if someone took a weak, pliable wooden stick off a construction site and shoved it on the end of an amputation, expecting the best. Wrapped around with by an excessive amount of duct tape. Incredibly aesthetic.
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? On Eren's person.
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? It's a leg.
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? It's a peg leg.

PROPOSED ITEM: Architectural design software for the BCE

WHAT DOES IT DO? Let you design building plans and models.
WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE? Lots of... grids...?
WHERE WILL IT BE STORED? In the BCE!
HOW WILL IT BENEFIT YOUR CHARACTER? He's a huge nerd who built like 20 castles in his lifetime, and he was gifted a copy of De Re Aedificatoria, so it would let him practice in a way that doesn't require any physical building. One day it might prove useful on a mission (mapping out building layouts for group tactical use?). One day...
HOW WILL IT DISADVANTAGE YOUR CHARACTER? He'll never see the light of day again. In seriousness, there's probably a steep learning curve for someone from a low tech era and it will no doubt cause many headaches. And he'd have to consider when he can use it because of the time utilising it necessitates. Don't want to look suspicious and/or slow-witted, don't want to be distracted at the wrong time...

Specifically, this outfit minus the brigandine and gorget (which are armor -- get stabbed in the chest on one occasion and suddenly you start acting like you're married to upper body armor or something). Woolen undergarments/hose, a pair of boots, breeches, a shirt, a gambeson (long brown padded jacket thing, not sure what it's made of), leather gloves with a split cuff, a fur-trimmed velvet cloak. It's cozy warm for winter! Real Northern fashion. You can see it better here but the brigandine and gorget are still getting in the way. It's cool with me if it needs to cost a little more because it's a lot of stuff, but in cultural terms, the shirt is more or less an undergarment: it would be rare for him to walk around in it with nothing over it.
