dream a little dream of me.
You were probably wondering what's going on with all that sleep stuff.
This is the (totally optional) plot for December. It's tailored to be as opt-in as possible, with you able to decide how involved you want to be, and what tone you wish to strike over it.
Anyway, you might have noticed the hotspots, the coolant shortage, the falling asleep and the weird dreams. Over the next few days, that's going to get a whole lot worse.
Aliens have invaded BASE. They've been here a while, actually, and as more of them crawl inside the walls of BASE, their affects are more strongly felt.
Shapers are empaths that eat coolant. They've been eating the BASE's coolant (thus the machine overheating you may have noticed) and trying to keep themselves from being found. Small enough to hide and nest in the walls, their emphatic control is meant as a defense mechanism to disorient possible predators. They send send potential predators asleep, and disorient them in their dreams.
Specifically, they create what some have called a 'dream vortex'. They break down the barriers between dreams, so dreamers have no choice but to enter dreams and memories of their fellow sleepers.
The dreamer will begin their normal dreams, and leave them however they see themselves. This means, if your character sees themselves in a way different than they act in the waking world, it's possible they may appear as such when they interact with others in dreams. Likewise, the logic of dreams is in full effect, and having an inhabitant in your dream doesn't change it.
Dreaming of a comfortable, happy place, when someone covered in blood stumbles in out of their own nightmare? They have to follow the rules of Candyland. The reverse is true.
The dream ends when one of the dreamers wakes up.
As this goes on, the effects will spread-- At first, it will only happen in hotspots in the hallways, but over time, the hotspots will spread, since they're being caused by coolant-eating gremlins in the walls. It's possible a hotspot could form in a character's bedroom, where they're sitting, anywhere. And over time, it will become harder and harder to wake from these dreams, as more and more Shapers nest and breed in BASE's walls.
There will be no big party log for this event, since we want to keep it opt-in. You're encouraged, if you want to participate, to make your own logs with various dream prompts. For ease of access (or avoidance), please tag the logs with the * dreamy tag.
Have fun! The effects of this will be running until the 23rd, with the option to back or forward date your dream logs however you want.
For those of you who do want to participate in this event, feel free to use this post to plot out whatever you wish. You're not just restricted to dreams; feel free to have characters notice the hotspots (which the crows will conspicuously avoid), the strange dreams (which they will now remember upon waking) and anything else.
